Residential aged care home management system: a qualitative analysis of conditions of use and effects for activity

Introduction and objective In a context of an increase of digitalization for all activities, residential aged care home implement management system to manage all their activities, including care. Healthcare workers could perceived those systems as a resource or as constraints for their activities. The objective of this article is to identify the perceived effects of software management system s uses for healthcare workers activities and the working conditions associated with. Method A thematic analysis of twenty-two interviews with caregivers, nurses and nurses coordinators of French private residential aged care was done. Results The results show that the software uses can be considered as a resource for the activity through providing cognitive reminder, autonomy and support for the team, a qualitative work and a protection of healthcare workers. However, the software s uses may also lead to quantitative and qualitative intensity, dependence of colleagues, a feeling of control, a deterioration of social relationships and impeded quality. These constraints are associated with the software s characteristics as well as material and organizational conditions. Conclusion The results suggest recommendations to improve using conditions and open up research perspectives on the required collective coordination and healthy technological mobile uses.
