A study of the influence of wearing hearing protectors on warning signal detection.

Wearing hearing protector devices may compromise the audibility of warning signals. As part of a collaboration between INRS and SNCF, the influence of wearing hearing protectors on signal detection was investigated for the three main jobs of the railway sector. To do so, masked thresholds measurements of warning signals were performed both with and without wearing the hearing protectors. Only people having normal hearing were considered.
