Prevention in transport and logistics: technological and organisational changes in networked enterprises

Study

The road haulage and logistics sector is of prime importance for the French economy. It is subjected to intense competitive pressures, and to ongoing modification of the socio-economic and regulatory context. These constraints are leading to these enterprises employing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and introducing organisational responses such as networked organisation.

At the present time, the existing analytical frameworks and risk prevention solutions cannot be transposed directly to this type of organisation. In this context, an original analytical framework suited to the networked organisation mode employed in this sector will be proposed. The first objective of this study is its finalisation and validation. The second is to give consideration to a prevention strategy for deployment in this sector. We aim to achieve these objectives from analysing the effects of introducing ICT and organisational changes. To take into account the variety of these organisations (size, type of activity, status of the enterprise and internal organisation), it is planned to work with some ten enterprises and to benefit from the knowledge acquired in previous studies in this sector.

These results will allow risk prevention solutions to be envisaged (technical, technological and organisational) adapted to this sector and their communication to the world of prevention, professionals and scientists. Consideration will also be given to the potential of generalising these results to other sectors of activity.
