Evaluation of culture media for measurement of workplace bioaerosols

Publication

The enumeration of bioaerosols on culture media is a low-cost method that is easy to set up and is still the benchmark for studying bioaerosols in workplace air. However, developments in scientific knowledge and feedback from users indicate that the culture media used are not always sufficiently selective (e.g. bacteria grow on a medium intended for fungi). Therefore, the growth of different microorganisms in liquid suspension and after aerosolisation was compared in the laboratory on different culture media to assess their specificity.
