Optimization of the measurement method of airborne endotoxins in the workplaces
Publication
Endotoxins are constituents of the outer membrane of certain bacteria which can be suspended in the air during occupational tasks. The previous measurement method dated from 2005 and needed updating. A complementary laboratory and field approach allow to propose a new optimized, simplified and validated method. It takes into account all the endotoxins captured using an efficient extraction directly into the closed-face cassette, what makes the samples representative of the inhalable fraction. Endotoxins are analyzed within 8 days of collection, with non-restrictive storage and transport of the cassettes at room temperature. These improvements make the endotoxin concentrations measured more robust and will contribute to easier appropriation of the M troPol M-454 method by users.
