Occupational accident rate and economic performance of companies
Publication
This study aims to assess the link between occupational accidents rate and economic performance of companies. An econometric model was built, in which performance of companies is explained by the quantities of labor and capital mobilized, as well as their occupational accidents rate. This model is statistically evaluated using a database of nearly 2 million French companies monitored from 2003 to 2017. Results : an increase of the occupational accidents rate immediately and significantly decreases the performance of the company. This effect continues in the following years. A 10% increase in AT rate decreases productivity by 0.12% and profit by 0.11%. The econometric model, applied to sectoral data at European and French level, confirms these results.
