Aerosol sampling by cascade impactor

Publication

Cascade impactors make it possible to collect particles according to their aerodynamic diameter and therefore to determine, by gravimetric analysis, the mass particle size distribution of aerosols over wide size ranges (submicron to micrometric). These tools are a valuable aid since, beyond determining the size distribution of an aerosol, they make it possible to collect samples that can then be characterized through additional analyzes (chemical analyzes in particular).<br/>
This particle size and chemical characterization of aerosols is a real contribution to understanding the effects of inhaled particles on health. This is essentially linked to the fact that particle size governs inhalation and deposition in the respiratory system and, subsequently by transfer, throughout the body.
