Control system of presses using a programmable electronic system: a guide for third party validation method implementation

Publication

The quickening pace of technological change is resulting in more and more constructors and renovators of machinery using automatic safety dedicated PLC to ensure both machine control and operator safety functions.
INRS, within the context of its EC certification activities for cold metal working presses, an area where the control bodies in general need a method, has developed a method to help them validate machine control circuits integrating safety dedicated PLC during the design phase and prior to their entering service.
This document describes the scope, the principle and the execution of this method, which proposes the analysis each step of the development cycle of a control circuit from the design stage onwards. The method is based on documents, information and the results of tests supplied by the designer, but also on a justified trust between control body and designer.
