Parallel Particle Impactor (PPI) samples the thoracic health-related aerosol fraction at 2 L/min flow rate for the assessment of workers’ personal exposure. The PPI sampler was laboratory tested and the resulting sampling efficiency curve was compared to the conventional CEN-ISO definition of thoracic particle penetration. A bias map for thoracic particle mass concentration measurement was computed for a series of polydisperse aerosols. The map shows that the Bias Performance Criterion BPC is 59%, representing fairly good sampling performance.
