Ethical conflicts at the workplace : definition, illustration, prevention
Publication
This work is dedicated to a definitional and exemplified prospect of the concept of "ethical conflict at work." To do so, the authors proceeded throughout four complementary chapters:
1- A review of the field literature has clarified the meaning of the terms "conflict" and "ethics" (by extension of "morality" and "deontology"),
2- The exploration of the main contributions (mainly Anglo-Saxon ones) dedicated to the measurement of the ethical conflict in work situations has led to discuss the value and feasibility of such a research direction,
3- Five illustrations of ethical conflict situations, observed in a variety of professional contexts, allowed illustrating both their empirical diversity as well as shared elements,
4 - The development of a dynamic modeling of ethical conflict at work, named "Role Consistency" is proposed to contribute to the efforts aimed at preventing such a form of occupational hazard.
