Shift work and cerebro cardiovascular diseases: critical review and synthesis of epidemiological evidence
Publication
A critical review has been carried out on the relationship between shift work exposure (SW) and the occurrence of ischemic cerebrocardiovascular diseases. In several studies of good quality, SW with night work was associated with a modest but significant increase of risk of CVD (fatal case and non-fatal case). But conclusions are less clear for the link between ischemic cardiovascular mortality and cerebrovascular diseases notably ischemic. In terms of causality, several selection biases difficult to take into account on the methodological plan, cannot be ruled out to explain this association: causal link or socioeconomic proxy? To answer this question, further research is still needed.
