Exposure to asbestos as a function of the work position: focus on the sampling operations

Publication

The campaign for the determination of the assigned protection factorsof Respiratory Protective Devices used on asbestos removal sites made it possible to collect exposure data on two types of population present during the work: asbestos treatment operators and observers who can represent the people who monitor the sampling and, by extension, the people entering asbestos removal sites as part of control missions. One of the findings is that the levels of exposure of these two types of population are very different with a level of exposure of the operators responsible for treating the asbestos material higher than that of the personnel responsible for taking the samples and who are positioned at a significant distance from the emission source in comparison with the first type. The results show that this difference depends on the layout of the zone of asbestos removal and the rate of renewal of the air in zone.
