How can the magnetic fields at resistance welding machine workstations be measured?
Publication
One in every two machines that emit electric and magnetic fields is a resistance welder. Resistance welding machines expose their operators to high magnetic fields which may exceed the exposure action values defined by European Directive 2013/45/EU. The regulations require that employers measure or assess the risk of electromagnetic radiation and take the necessary actions to reduce it. Measuring magnetic fields emitted by resistance welding equipment enables that risk to be better understood but is difficult because of the impulsive nature of the signal. This article reports on a measurement method for assessing the risk and gives the results of measurements taken at the workstations of more than 100 machines.
