Measuring and evaluating occupational exposure to artificial optical radiation (except laser). Methodological guide.
Publication
Exposure to artificial optical radiation (AOR) may be harmful to the health of workers. But AOR sources data are not always available or sufficient for a prior risk assessment. So measurements at the workplace are required. Difficulties for measuring ROA come from the extent of the spectral range, complexity of the Exposure Limit Values (ELV) and diversity of measurement systems and sources met at the worksite. This paper aims at guiding staff in charge of carrying out measurements at the workplace. Firstly it lists existing guidelines, standards and regulations and then reminds the quantities and corresponding ELV to be determined. The main available measurement systems are determined and analyzed. Finally, a methodology for the measurement at the workplace and risk assessment is proposed.
