Low pressure impactor wall deposits quantification using metallic nanoparticles produced by thermal spraying process

Publication

Dekati low pressure impactor is used to determine mass distribution of aerosol from 7 nm to 10 µm according to aerodynamic diameter. Wall losses quantification of the entire column has been performed with the use of a thermal spraying process. Polydisperse zinc aerosol has been produced which is quite singular compared to other wall losses studies on impactors. Indeed this kind of aerosol is more representative of real ones than those usually used in laboratory. Three replicates of two durations have been realized and results showed that wall losses were quite important and in relation with aerosol modes. 13% and 14% of the total mass has been found on wall for 5 and 20 minutes sampling duration respectively. But for some stages, relative losses could reach almost 50%. These losses were also quite different among replicates. In addition a comparison have been done between DLPI and ELPI and showed differences unresolved by calculation.
